General assembly
At this service, the Weekly Bible Lesson-Sermon, from the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons, is read aloud by two Readers. Passages from the Holy Bible are illuminated by corresponding passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. Hymns, scriptural readings, silent prayer, The Lord’s Prayer, and a vocal solo, are also included.
After a Reader reads aloud from the Holy Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, members of the congregation give examples of healings they have experienced through prayer alone. Sometimes they also comment on Bible passages or an observation they have made in their study of Christian Science. The service also includes hymns, silent prayer, and The Lord’s Prayer.
Sunday School meets on Sundays at 10:30 am, at the same time as the Sunday church service. Children are taught that God is Love, and they explore their relationship with Him.
The Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Sermon on the Mount are the first lessons taught, along with Bible stories. Older students work with questions and answers from their studies in the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons, using the Holy Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
The Reading Room, a quiet place to pray and study, also gives visitors the opportunity to browse, ask questions, and buy or borrow study materials. Reference aids to help you find answers to your questions about Christian Science include:
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Christian Science Monitor is also available.
Most of the publications of the Christian Science Publishing Society are available in the Reading Room’s lending library.
